Every call answered. Booked, or taken down.
Telani is the phone receptionist for your business. It answers day and night, books what can be booked and leaves your team a short list of the rest.
In use at a clinical research company and a dental practice on Open Dental.

Thanks for calling Riverside Dental, this is the office assistant. How can I help?
- Caller
Hi, I'd like to come in for a cleaning next week.
- Front desk
Happy to. I have Tuesday at 10:30 or Thursday at 4. Which is better?
- Caller
Tuesday at 10:30, please.
- Front desk
You're booked for Tuesday at 10:30.
One receptionist for every call. It answers, books, follows up and calls back.
Calls answered
Every call gets an answer, day and night, from the hours, services and policies you add. When the answer isn't there, Telani is told to take a message rather than guess.
- Caller
- Do you take Delta Dental?
- Front desk
- We do. Would you like me to book you in? I have Thursday at 4.
- Caller
- Not yet. What should I bring the first time?
- Front desk
- Your insurance card and a photo ID. Anything else I can help with?
Appointments booked
During the call it offers real openings from your opening hours and books them in Telani's calendar. Connect a Google Calendar and it skips your busy times and adds each booking there. Booking into Open Dental is in pilot with one practice.
Callbacks on one list
When it can't help, it takes the caller's name, number and what they need. Calls that need a callback wait on one list, and urgent requests are flagged and listed first on your Requests page.
Outgoing calls
Reminder and follow-up calls to a list you upload, and call-backs to web-form leads within seconds, 8 AM to 9 PM local time. Every call checks your do-not-call list first.

Questions people ask first.
Does it sound like a robot?
No. It speaks in a natural voice, usually replies within 2 seconds, and lets callers interrupt it the way they would a person. Play a sample call, or sign up and call it yourself.
Will callers know they're talking to an assistant?
You decide how it introduces itself, including saying that it's an automated assistant.
What happens when it can't help?
It takes a message: the caller's name, number and what they need. Calls that need a callback wait on one list for your team, and urgent requests are flagged and listed first on your Requests page.
Can it book appointments?
Yes. During the call it offers real openings from your opening hours and books them in Telani's calendar. Connect a Google Calendar and it also skips your busy times and adds each booking there. Booking straight into Open Dental is in pilot with one practice, through a small connector installed in the office.
Do we have to change our phone number?
No. Get a Telani number in the US or Canada, then forward your own line to it when nobody picks up, after hours, or all the time. Or give out the new number as it is.
Which businesses is it for?
Any business that answers a phone. When you sign up you pick your business type, and Telani starts out knowing what to ask, what to write down and what counts as urgent for that kind of business. Clinical research sites are set up with our team.
Does it send texts?
Not yet. Texting is waiting on US carrier registration, so for now Telani works by phone. Every outgoing call checks your do-not-call list first, and texts will too.
Which languages does it speak?
English, for now.
What about callers' information?
Call transcripts and the answers Telani collected are kept for 12 months by default; choose anywhere from 30 days to 2 years, or until you delete them. An admin can export or delete a caller's calls, transcripts, messages taken on calls, bookings and follow-ups by phone number. When someone opens a call or transcript, or changes a setting, it's logged with who and when.
